What I Want vs. What Is

I so want to write a nice, possibly inspirational post about the Chinese New Year dinner I went to over the weekend at our Tai Chi club. About how it dawned on me (at about the 5th course of 11) that they serve one course at a time so each course can be truly savored and appreciated. About how there are certain ways to serve the dishes and pour the tea, which engender respect and courtesy. And how a 3 1/2 hour dinner with interesting and pleasant companions makes the dinner even more enjoyable. Not to mention a very cool Lion Dance.

But for some reason I just feel all blogged out lately. I'll have an idea for a post and then it will fizzle. I'll see some new connnection I haven't seen before, and then it will disappear and I can't get it back. Or I just don't feel like doing the typing and editing. The days are getting longer and lighter, little by little, but I still feel mostly in the depths of Winter.

On the other hand, the last thing I want to do is write a post full of faux-enthusiasm, so maybe it's better just to let it be, and accept What Is.

I know what you mean, lady T...

It usually puts me on "intake" mode, where I get looking at things to try, etc etc. That's when I get hopeful.

How about an off-blog conversation? litetechca@gmail.com

Sounds like it was a cool dinner too!

Winter. I suspect that once the snow melts, the days become warmer and you start your seeds, the energy will return. Until then, do the things that make you happy...like building a snowman. It's sure to bring a smile. ;o)

I know what you mean about still being in the depths of winter. Yeah, it's pretty awesome that the days are slowly getting longer and lighter, but the cold is still here, and we know better. We still have a ways to go until the real warmth of spring arrives. The lightening is a tease, getting our hopes up when reality hits. It's okay though, we all feel it up here. Just make sure to do one thing a day to make yourself happy. :)

Thanks SBT - yes, 'intake' mode is a good description of how I feel these days: taking things in but not putting them out. All in good time I guess! It was a cool dinner!

Liz, I think you're right. Winter is supposed to be a 'down time' after all. I just found a lovely new-to-me book ("Eat Pray Love") at the used bookstore that I think I will hunker down and read for a while...

Desiree - that is good advice! I just have to make sure the 'one thing' isn't always chocolate and/or wine!

I envy your winter down time. There's barely been a dark day here and my insides are sideways from not having the winter time beneath a blanklet huddled on the couch watching it rain. And the paper is full of news of low water levels and rationing. It's going to be a long summer - enjoy your winter! (And I loved reading Eat Love Pray.)

Thanks Kale, that puts things in perspective :) I don't know where abouts you call home, but I know when I was in Florida some years ago I found it very weird that it was dark and hot at the same time.

The Eat Pray Love book is turning out to be quite compelling!

Hi Theresa greetings from Adelaide.
Pattie from Foodshed Planet wrote about Eat Prat Love here

I guess you wont be reading this in a hammock as she was.
We are having a dry heatwave here, the tomatoes are roasting on the vines.
Life is full of spice and flavour. I have been cooking summer chutneys and relishes and I remember all you bloggers and your last summers canning experiences.
How the pioneer women of all our lands battled through these extremes in climate amazes me.
I always stop by to read and enjoy what you have to say. Cheers.

I'm a smidge north of San Francisco - all that ocean around us and we're going dry. Glad you're enjoying the book.

Hi Theresa,

I'm totally picking up what you are laying down. I'm ready for spring. It was too cold for too long this winter.

I like going to the Kinsmen Sports Center in the river valley. I enjoy the diversity of the people there, especially watching the different sports clubs do their training. That wakes me up in the winter.

Kale: I was through there once about 15 years ago - very nice. It must be drier now than then...

Ingrid, that sounds like a good thing to do. The river valley is nice any time of year :) The cold sure did last a long time alright - hopefully it has at least halted the spread of the pine beetle...
