The Swiffer Revisited

My sister Lori gave me this great Swiffer-related idea the other day! She had correctly assumed that I hadn't been using my Swiffer device for some time, being as it requires disposable wiper pad thingies. So my Swiffer skeleton had been in my closet, languishing for years.

But Lori's idea has changed all that! I can now bring that thing back into useful service by attaching a microfiber cloth to the base of the Swiffer and sweep with abandon once again! The extra parts hanging over the edge even help get into corners better than the original disposable pads. The microfiber cloth (or any other type of absorbent cloth, I presume) can be folded over and by doing so I get four uses out of one cloth before tossing it in the wash.

As a bonus, by dampening the cloth and sprinkling on some baking soda, those dried spill marks on the linoleum wipe up in snap. Even the dirt in those weird little linoleum grooves comes right up, thanks to the wonders of baking soda, the Swiffer Revisited, and a little (very little) elbow grease.

Yay Theresa!! I knew you'd like it as soon as I thought of it!! Sadly, my microfiber cloths are only big enough for two uses before I toss it in the wash! But, we went back to the Dollar store and bought all the ones they had! They work great!! I think microfiber will work better than any other kind of cloth because it seems to not get so heavy like a regular washcloth would(at least when wet!) This combined with the Sweepa you gave me is a deadly dog hair getter combo!

I am going to try your baking soda trick next for sure!

It really worked well! I agree, the microfiber cloth probably best mimics the disposable pad the swiffer comes with.

The Sweepa is great too! Saves me plugging in the vacuum when I can just sweep!

Oh, and that latte powder shaker I picked up for 50 cents at the Gibbons wide garage sale works great for shaking out baking soda as required. I keep it in the fridge to deodorize in there until I need it to clean.

I did that for a while with a free Swiffer I had received but then decided to get rid of it. Now I don't remember why and I miss it!
