The price of greed

This CBS 60 Minutes show on the Deepwater Horizon travesty, and the story of one of its survivors is amazing and horrifying. When will we ever, ever, ever learn? When? WHEN!!!!

I'm beginning to think we won't ever learn. Not for any lasting period of time, not without some really hard lessons. We never have before, why now?

So now what to do: drop out and only change own life, give up and ignore, advocate more, or try to make a big change?

Good questions, E, good questions. Ones I struggle with daily....

I was thinking the same things on the way home tonight. Why bother. Awfully hard to stop caring, though.

It's the combination of caring and feeling hopeless to do anything to effect change that's so demoralizing, and maddening. Makes me want to scream, some days...

Here is someone who says it much better than I ever could:

It gets worse...

BP was given permission to start drilling the BC rockies JUST 3 DAYS after the Gulf disaster started.

The Canadian regulatory system is being exposed as just as flawed.

But here's where it gets better: Local communities in BC have been opposed to this BP project (1st of its kind in BC) since 2008. City council, the mayor - EVERYONE is prepared to stop this. And they will.

This is another Clayoquot Sound moment. Citizens are holding the first big protest THIS WEDS JULY 14!

Hi Sean - I'm glad to hear of such grassroots citizen action. That is the only thing that has ever made a real difference, and the only thing that ever will.
